“…Ost’s epic writing is strongly presented.”

BIO
Nathan Ost is an American composer born in 1993 and raised in McAllen, Texas. He started playing trumpet at age 11 and discovered his passion for writing music in his senior year of high school.
In 2012, Nathan wrote and published his first trumpet etude book—21 Characteristic Studies for Trumpet—with the sole intention of providing better music for the modern-day trumpeter.
Since then, Nathan has been fortunate enough to collaborate with world-class musicians and see his music performed on a global scale.
His most popular work is his collection of trumpet etudes—The Complete Ost Etudes for Trumpet— which is taught at several universities across the United States and featured in the June 2021 edition of the International Trumpet Guild Journal, where the book was said to be “destined for success.”
In 2023, Nathan was commissioned by the Illinois Music Education Association to write the trumpet audition music for the 2025-2026 Illinois All-State competition (both junior and senior level).
Beyond his trumpet and brass works, Nathan has also written music for piano, choir, and orchestra—including an original Christmas song, Jingle Elves, which he co-wrote with German composer, Henning Hansen in 2024. In December, 2025, Jingle Elves was performed by the Ozark Festival Orchestra and Colorado Springs Philharmonic.
Nathan studied trumpet with Alan Hood at the University of Denver and holds a Bachelor’s degree in University Studies from Texas Tech University where he studied communications, psychology, and creative media strategies.
